We all have days when all we want to do is absolutely nothing. I am having one of those days right now. It is Thursday May 16th and it is raining and you know what? I just want to sit on my couch and binge on Netflix. Unfortunately, I am not allowed to do that because my toddler is busy "watching" Daniel Tiger. I put that in quotes because he doesn't really sit and watch a whole episode, what he does is he watches bits and pieces while he plays with his toys or while he follows me around the house. So that tends to get in the way of those days when I am just not feeling it. You moms know what I'm talking about.

Anyway, back to the main purpose of this blog. How can we stay on track when we are just not feeling it? For one I will say this, if you are having one day when you just don't want to work out then don't. If you are having a day when you want to eat something bad then go for it. One meal won't destroy the progress you have made, and yes I said one meal. I understand we all have those days but that doesn't mean you get to eat bad the entire day. Now back to the fitness part, on days when you don’t feel like working out I suggest you just don’t and here are 4 reasons why.

1. The last thing you want to do is make the workout feel like a chore. Once we begin to feel like it’s a chore it becomes something we don’t want to do on the daily. So in order to stay motivated it is best we rest.

2. Taking a break will help your body recover from all the stress we put on the body from our workouts. Most of the time our body sends us messages that we tend to ignore, and one of them is when the body is asking us to rest. It is so important to remember that working out causes two types of stress. One of them being a metabolic stress which is the depletion of energy and two the mechanical stress which is the physical damage to our muscles. So the best thing to do is to rest in order to recover and repair our muscles.

3. To stay motivated! Yes, taking a rest day will keep you motivated. Why is that? Because you get to take a day off to catch up on work, sleep, or personal matters and when you do that a part of our brain tells us that something was missing and the thing that is missing is a work out session. So when you take a rest day and go back to training the next day you will notice that you are more eager to train and have more energy.

4. You might want to put on your workout attire and shoes to go to the gym and that is ok. You can utilize this time to spend it with your loved ones.
